Low Profile Ceiling Fans

Designer Style Low Profile Ceiling Fans

The reason why low profile ceiling fans are popular is basic safety. Nobody wants the blades of a fan that is mounted on the ceiling whirling around right close to your head like the rotors of a dangerous helicopter. Of course if your room has a higher ceiling this is not as much of an issue, but most rooms today are built with a standard ceiling height of 8-feet. If you add that some ceiling fans also have lights, you are going to want one that hugs as close to the ceiling as possible.

Some of the most popular brand names in the ceiling fan industry are Casablanca, Hunter, Emerson, Hampton Bay, Harbor Breeze and Craftmade. Look for such features as multiple speed or variable speeds and with or without lighting. The less expensive fans have chains you pull to control the speeds but it is more convenient to be able to turn a wall switch for continuously variable fan speed.

These days, a lot of home improvement stores like Home Depot offer installation service in case you are not a do-it-yourselfer. But if you are going to save money the DIY way then make sure you get clear and understandable instructions for installing your new home cooling unit.

It used to be the only fans you could get looked like something out of the Casablanca movie set but more lately there are a good variety of interior decorating styles available including rustic, modern and tropical designs.

There is not much of a price difference between a ceiling hugger and the less high profile type of fan. The main differences besides the overall look would be the number of blades, there are four-blade and five-blade models, and also the length of the blade span tends to vary from 42-inches to 54-inches, with 48-inches being a compromise in the middle.

If you are looking for outdoor ceiling fans, make sure you get a model that is properly rated, as the majority are designed for dry indoor conditions only.
